Poem

Queen of Hearts

Out of many we can be one Bristol

is the truth Cleo Lake wishes to instil

To many this seams like an over optimistic dream But remember we all come from the same stream

Africa is where life started and where humanity began

Its the birthplace of the ancestors for every woman and man

We have many cultures and languages that set us apart Yet we are all still one and Cleo holds this in her heart

Cleo came to life from a cultural entwining Two cultures both human’s no dividing

Growing up in Bristol Cleo faced a city divided Were options presented seemed so one sided

Race wealth and class are the elephants in the room Propelling some to stardom dragging others to doom

Striving forward with a desire to achieve However hard Cleo had to believe

Believe in herself and her love for humanity Which allowed Cleo to hold on to her sanity

Moving forward Cleo would still get knocked down but she would find the strength to swim not drown

Along her journey much Cleo has learned A knowledge gained that’s duly returned 93

Cleo’s accolades and achievements are widely known Coupled with her beliefs her stature has grown

Carnival Leader, Green Councillor to Lord Mayor Cleo accent happened right here

Having no fear of entering new spaces Cleo has connected unsuspecting faces

Pulling together Bristol’s cultural community Breaking barriers down and creating unity

Critically tackling Bristols political elite Creating a lake for our streams to meet
